Máire O’Mahony, recipient of the TBG+S/MA:AP Graduate Residency Award 2014, is an artist based in Cork who recently completed an MA (Hons) in Art and Process at The Crawford College of Art and Design, Cork in 2013. This month-long residency allows one selected artist to work from a studio at TBG+S. She has exhibited in group shows both here and abroad and is a founder member of the artists' group Scissors/Cuts/Paper. She was recipient of Cork City Council Artists Bursary in 2011.
The artists practice is multidisciplinary and is currently informed by an investigation into process and context. The Open Studio + Artist Presentation is a direct response to the above concerns in and through an ontological enquiry into the relationship between the viewer and the art object/scenario. These were the parameters set by the artist as an outline framework for the residency: a phenomenological response to the embodied subject, the intention behind artistic gesture and it's material realisation; the notions of agency, mastery and their corrolary in failure/abjection.
