Caoimhe Kilfeather’s exhibition ‘this attentive place’ has been in development since summer 2013, when Programme Curator Rayne Booth invited Caoimhe Kilfeather to make new work specifically for the gallery at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios. As a starting point for the work, the artist considered the various elements that make up a room; light, hearth, boundaries, furniture and textiles among others, and created sculptural art works that consider these parameters. The resulting installation immerses the viewer in a strange environment of a public art gallery that is still somehow familiar in its allusions to domesticity and privacy.
Kilfeather makes a large amount of her work using everyday materials and well known techniques such as casting and weaving. Other elements in her work are professionally fabricated to her specifications. Often large scale works are constructed within the gallery space, allowing for an element of uncertainty and a moment of unveiling when they are created for an exhibition.
On Tuesday 15th July, Caoimhe Kilfeather and curator Rayne Booth will discuss the processes and ideas behind the work, the background to the exhibition and will give an insight into commissioning and creating the exhibition ‘this attentive place’ at TBG+S.
All are welcome but booking is essential as places are strictly limited.
