Read and discuss Olivia Laing’s first novel, Crudo, an experimental autofiction which blends the personal and political, testing the limits of fiction.
Refreshments included. Spaces are limited, booking is essential.
Explore the boundaries of fictional storytelling at Dublin Art Book Fair (DABF) and respond to Guest Curator Adrian Duncan's theme Fictions: The makings of other worlds. In her experimental autofiction novel Crudo, Olivia Laing inhabits the character of the late writer Kathy Acker, reflecting on and responding to real world events. Acker, who herself was known for fabricating realities and also wrote using the identities of others as a literary device, is blended with Laing's voice playing with aspects of persona and how it can rest at the intersection of fiction and reality.
Join in on the larger discussion of DABF Guest Curator Adrian Duncan’s Fictions: The makings of other worlds in this book club led by Sadbh O'Brien (TBG+S). Read, discuss and enjoy some light refreshments while the group considers different ways stories can be told; the images, figures, feelings that emerge while doing so; and the sorts of truths they propose.
In advance of the event, participants will be sent information including an extract from the book, although reading the book in full is encouraged. A limited number of copies are available for the unwaged. Please contact TBG+S Learning + Public Engagement Curator Órla Goodwin to request a copy.
DABF is a centre for contemporary artist books offering unique artist publications and titles from creative, small and independent publishers, both Irish and international.
Dublin Art Book Fair 2024 is proudly sponsored by Henry J Lyons and supported by Dublin UNESCO City of Literature and RTÉ Supporting the Arts.
