To celebrate the centennial of the founding of the Bauhaus, the National Gallery of Ireland is exhibiting a series of Bauhaus print portfolios on loan from the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart. The print workshop at the State Bauhaus in Weimar was led by the ‘Master of Form’ Lyonel Feininger. He oversaw the project of the Bauhaus Prints, a selection of new European graphic works, printed between 1922 and 1924 and published in four portfolios. Bringing together Europe’s artistic avant-garde in the field of printmaking was an ambitious task. Bauhaus masters, together with a diverse group of renowned painters involved in Abstraction, Futurism and Expressionism, donated original prints to the project. In total, the four Bauhaus Portfolios contain 52 prints by 45 artists including Beckmann, Feininger, Grosz, Kandinsky, Kirchner, Klee, Marc and Pechstein. All are included in this print gallery exhibition, which runs until 1 December 2019.
