DABF23 Opening Talk: Polyphonic
07 December 2023, 6pm
Part talk, part tour, join Dublin Art Book Fair’s Guest Curator Wendy Erskine in exploring this year’s theme, Polyphonic.
18 September 2020, 4pm - 9pm
For Culture Night 2020, Temple Bar Gallery + Studios presents late evening screenings of Swinguerra by Bárbara Wagner & Benjamin de Burca.
This acclaimed film documents an expressive contemporary dance phenomenon in Brazil, performed mainly by transgender and non-binary dancers. In response to the country’s changing social and political conditions, ‘swinguerra’ is an artform that calls for liberation and participation.
Wagner & de Burca’s films focus on music and dance forms that draw under-represented communities together, highlighting visibility, legal rights, and self-representation. A hybrid of music documentary and socio-political study, the films deftly communicate complex issues with a broad-reaching and upbeat attitude. Wagner & de Burca represented Brazil at the Venice Biennale 2019.
The Swinguerra exhibition has been designed to allow for social distancing and a concentrated viewing experience.
Six free tickets are available for each screening, which equates to six seats. Seats are intended for use only by one person but a parent may wish to bring a child to share their seat. We request that individuals do not book multiple tickets for a single screening, even if booking on behalf of another person, as we require individual names and contact information for all visitors to aid potential contact tracing.
We require all visitors to the exhibition to wear a facemask and use the provided hand-sanitiser as necessary. All seats are 2m apart and will be sanitised between screenings.
Book your free ticket via Eventbrite or call us on 01 671 0073 during office hours (Monday to Friday, 10am - 6pm).
If you would like to arrange a group visit, please contact us and we will try to accommodate you:

Screenings begin on the hour, during opening hours. We encourage visitors to arrive approximately 5-10 minutes ahead of the screening time and we provide books and information on the exhibition to browse. As we are only able to provide limited access to this exhibition, we will prioritise visitors with bookings and who arrive on time. We can not guarantee access for latecomers, as empty seats at the start of a screening will be allocated to walk-in visitors.
There is one instance in the artwork with filmed strobe lighting. If this is likely to affect your viewing experience, or prevent you from experiencing the exhibition, please contact us and we can discuss ways in which we may be able to accommodate you.
We wish to inform visitors that there are several instances in the artwork of subtitled lyrics that may be considered sexually explicit.
Swinguerra is approx 22 minutes in length. It will be repeated twice for each scheduled screening to accommodate visitors that would like to watch it twice in a row.
All of our artistic programmes are free for you to enjoy.
If you have engaged with these programmes and would like to support Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, please make a donation to help us support artists during this difficult time. Every donation counts; all funds raised will go directly towards paying artists and supporting rent relief.
