Book Launch: Brendan Earley ‘Some time later’

03 — 05 December 2021, 11am @ Online

To mark the publication of Some time later by artist Brendan Earley, this event presents a short video introduction to the book, narrated by Hazel Earley.

Some time later is the product of an exchange between the artist Brendan Earley and writers, Pádraic E. Moore and Chris Fite-Wassilak. The collaboration framed a space which allowed for a particular kind of reflection necessary for these times. Earley’s new and existing artwork, along with contextual photography, is the pivot around which the project took form. This work and essays that followed open broader questions on creativity - is being unproductive part of being productive? And, paradoxically, this has produced a subject with endless possibilities for both poetic reflection and insightful articulation. This book presents a lens which focuses on our recent collective stasis, where time could not only have been regarded as standing still but also seemed to develop a new kind of momentum (production). The book seeks to better understand this and what it might mean for artistic creativity.

Brendan Earley lives and works in Wicklow. After graduating from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin with a first-class honours, he spent a number of years travelling before receiving the Fulbright Scholarship to attend Hunter College, New York City. Earley graduated with a master’s in fine art in 1999 and returned to Dublin where he exhibits regularly. He was awarded his PhD in 2010 from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin.

This event takes place as part of Dublin Art Book Fair 2021: Manual, sponsored by Henry J Lyons and supported by Dublin UNESCO City of Literature.
