A two-part art writing workshop led by poet Annemarie Ní Churreáin in response to Lucy Stein’s current exhibition Lunula
03 February 2023, 11:30am – 1:30pm
Join Keith Kavanagh for a presentation on the animation included in the gallery exhibition Claí na Péiste (Worm’s Ditch) by Sibyl Montague followed by an animation workshop.
Join us for an introduction to Keith Kavanagh's career as a freelance animator and illustrator, followed by a presentation on the process involved in creating a scene for Claí na Péiste (Worm's Ditch) from scratch. You will then have a chance to prepare a scene of your own animation using a passage from a song. Keith worked with artist Sibyl Montague on the hand-drawn animation included in her current solo exhibition, Claí na Péiste (Worm’s Ditch) at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios.
This workshop is suitable for all with an interest in animation, no experience necessary. Materials supplied.
Keith Kavanagh, or Kav, is an Irish animator and illustrator who, due to a selection box won in an art competition in junior infants, believes he was made to create. His most recent film Smooth Mouth, completed as part of the Offline Residency, won Best 2D Short Film Award at the Dublin Animation Film Festival 2021. His list of clients includes Adult Swim, Trinity College Dublin and Netflix. He has worked on music videos for artists such as Elvis Presley, Eartha Kitt and Billie Eilish. His work has been presented at numerous festivals and exhibitions, at home and abroad, and he has been compared to a young Rory Calhoun.
Sibyl Montague’s Claí na Péiste (Worm’s Ditch) is an exhibition of new work by the Irish artist at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios. The film work accumulates culturally symbolic references to the pig in Irish folkloric storytelling, everyday life and contemporary ecology. Montague employs a range of traditional and digital animation in this film installation, with hand illustration, CGI, and puppetry.
