Space Invaders will use the exhibition staring forms at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios as a starting point for considering how we can build and transform our environment. The workshop will begin with a visit to the gallery to discuss the exhibition through a conversation facilitated by Sophie Behal and Clíodhna O’Riordan. We will look at the materials the artists have chosen to use; how they have used lines, shapes, and objects on the walls and on the floor; and how these things make us feel and make us move through the space.
The workshop will then move upstairs to Studio 6 and we will begin to playfully think about how we can change the environment within the space. Using modular cardboard sheets we will build structures and reimagine the space by dividing it into sections, building rooms within the room, constantly transforming the structures to open up new windows and passages. Throughout the workshop we will continue conversations to reflect upon our choices and decision making, observing how we can share, divide, shrink, expand and transform the spaces, and how the various assemblages effect how we feel, our relationship to one another and to the space.
Serious About Play is a series of family workshops at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, as part of Dublin City Council’s Cruinniú na nÓg - a day of youthful creativity in Dublin City.
