Temple Bar Gallery + Studios is delighted to host an evening concert by composer and songwriter Jules Maxwell who is returning to Ireland for a series of performances accompanied by multi-instrumental Normandy-based trio, Deleyaman. Combining Maxwell’s background in theatre, dance and balladeering with Deleyaman’s enigmatic range of musical influences, their performances draw from a vast array of genres and sounds including post-punk, cold wave, Anatolian minstrels, psychedelia, minimalism, and ethereal soundscapes.
Since being introduced by their mutual friend Brendan Perry (Dead Can Dance), Deleyaman are regulars at Le Relais (the relay), Maxwell’s monthly gig, organised in his town of Noyelles-sur-Mer, where a wide-range of acts come to play and collaborate. This sense of inclusiveness and curiosity is at the heart of Maxwell’s music and he is drawn to the idiosyncrasies of improvised and collaborative performance. Maxwell has featured with Foy Vance, Dead Can Dance, Duke Special, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, amongst many others. Deleyaman was founded in 2000 by Aret Madilian, and joined by singer Beatrice Valantin, duduk player Gerard Madilian, and guitarist Guillaume Leprevost. They have released several albums and toured the USA and Europe.
