TBG+S/HIAP International Residency Exchange
The TBG+S/HIAP International Residency Exchange supports visual artists based in Ireland or Irish artists living abroad to spend three months in residency at HIAP - Helsinki International Artist Programme, in a live/work studio on the island of Suomenlinna, Helsinki. The exchange also supports Finnish artists to live in Dublin and work from a studio at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios.
Since the partnership began in 2007, TBG+S and HIAP have supported over twenty artists and curators from Ireland and Finland. Now a well-established opportunity, the TBG+S/HIAP International Residency Exchange fosters opportunities for artists to gain experience, build networks internationally, engage in an interdisciplinary dialogue with the HIAP community, research and make work in a new context.
The TBG+S/HIAP International Residency Exchange is supported by the Finnish Institute, UK + Ireland.
"I am deeply grateful to TBG+S and HIAP for this incredible opportunity. My time in Helsinki became a catalyst for new beginnings. Being on Suomenlinna island immersed me in an alternative pace to my everyday research and studio practice, allowing space for reflection and experimentation. I benefited from a generous studio, unlimited access to equipment, workshops, a library, and technical expertise. However, the true value of the residency extended far beyond these resources. Spending time with the HIAP team and a group of fellow artists during this period fostered meaningful exchange and connection. Saunas, swims, nature walks, communal dinners, and exhibition openings shaped my time there, offering support, moments of reflection and a renewed sense of possibility moving forward." - Clíodhna Timoney, TBG+S/HIAP International Residency Exchange recipient 2025
