Cité Internationale des Arts Residency
The Cité Internationale des Arts Residency offers a studio and living accommodation for three months in a central Paris location.
Temple Bar Gallery + Studios is annually invited by the Institut Français to nominate a visual artist for a three month residency at Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris.
The Residency offers a studio and living accommodation at one of Cité Internationale des Arts' two sites; Paris’ Marais or Montmartre districts. Cité Internationale des Arts encourages cross-cultural dialogue and provides a place where artists can meet with a public audience and other visual arts professionals.
Nominated artists are asked to make a proposal for their residency that considers Paris as part of a global community, with consideration of other artists and curators, who they can engage with.
Since our first invitation in 2016, we have successfully nominated artists each year for this residency programme.
Being awarded a residency at Cité Internationale des Arts offered me the opportunity to connect with other artists, filmmakers, musicians, dancers, and writers from all around the world. These encounters have provided me with so much understanding of new cultures and insight into the art world on an international scale. Through the support of Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, I've been enabled to connect with professionals through studio visits and also attend organised events (workshops, gallery visits, peer critiques) through the Cité professional programme. Hosting an open studio, curated by Institut Francais, enabled me to hear direct feedback on my work. This was invaluable in learning how my work resonates with an international audience. Establishing these professional and peer connections continues to be a vital resource for furthering my practice. My time spent living and working in Paris was a profoundly enriching experience and one that I look back on with great fondness and appreciation. - Lisa Freeman
