Join Charlotte Salter Townshend, Guide at the National Botanic Gardens, for an insightful discussion of various systems that exist within plant life from symbiotic to parasitic.
The talk will take in the plants displayed in Otobong Nkanga's current exhibition The Breath From Fertile Grounds, which includes lichens, moss, and bog plants. The exhibition uses the different relationships between plants and between plants and non-living material, such as bricks and rocks, to represent different social and political structures, considering what it means to be non-native, to become mutual or to be parasitic, or to show resilience against all odds. Elucidating on this theme, Charlotte will discuss the plant relationships illustrated in the exhibition as well as some other similar examples.
