Exhibiting artist Rebecca Moccia and Marta Bianchi from Care of, Milan will host a curated series of short video’s followed by an artist talk and introduction to the Gallery exhibition Nostalgism.
Bookings Open Tuesday 5 May
Developed in dialogue with Rebecca Moccia’s solo exhibition, Nostalgism, the screening programme presents a selection of film works by Italian artists Simona Andrioletti, Riccardo Giacconi and Giulio Squillacciotti. Supported by Careof, (Milan), and preserved within its archive, the works explore the theme of nostalgia — and feelings more broadly — as a structural phenomenon shaped and mobilised within the capitalist system, traversing media, technology, the economy, and politics.
The screening programme reflects on how nostalgia has become a powerful and often malleable force in contemporary society, shaping our collective imagination while influencing our experience of the present and our ability to envisage the future.
This will be followed by a short conversation in the Gallery with Rebecca Moccia and Programme Curator Michael Hill.
Event location Information: This event takes place in Studio 6 and is accessible by stairs and lift. The room will have low lighting and theatre style seating. The talk will take place on the ground floor in the Gallery where there will be sound, video and floor based work, and seating available on request. There is a semi-accessible bathroom on the ground floor. For further accessibility information please contact Learning + Public Engagement Curator Órla Goodwin.

On 7 February 1992, the Treaty on European Union was signed in Maastricht. Decades later, the representatives of the last three countries left in Europe meet in the very same room, this time to deliberate on the permanent shutdown of their Union. In what seems to be a looped therapy session, the three characters - helped by a British interpreter as a self-appointed analyst - try to deal with their feelings of loss.

The starting point of this film is the album Canti delle donne in lotta (Songs of Women in Struggle) by the feminist women’s movement in Rome. Andrioletti invites five singers to reinterpret the songs, filming them in front of, or inside, monumental fascist architecture in Berlin, Rome, and Munich. The contemporary music and lyrics stand in contrast to these gigantic buildings built by dictators which were used to legitimise their absolute claims to power.
