Frank Sweeney Screening Series
07 October — 04 November 2025, Tuesdays | 6pm
A screening series curated by exhibiting artist Frank Sweeney, selected in the context of his new film installation, Go Ye Afar.
05 December 2021, 2pm + 4pm @ Irish Architecture Foundation
For over a year, Gereon Wetzel and Jörg Adolph filmed on site at Düstere Strasse 4 in Göttingen, recording first-hand the organised chaos that is daily working life at Steidl Publishers.
From book concept to design, from editorial and prepress to printing, the film exposes the craft of bookmaking today. Accompanying Gerhard Steidl on travels to artists' studios and galleries - from New York and Mabou, to Doha and Vancouver - Wetzel and Adolph also capture some of the unique characters and collaborations through which Steidl books come into being. Their film portrays the art of publishing at its perfection. The simple beauty of Steidl books, created with artists as diverse as Robert Frank, Nan Goldin, and Richard Serra, along with Robert Frank, Karl Lagerfeld, Joel Sternfeld, Günther Grass and many others.
Gereon Wetzel and Jörg Adolph are filmmakers whose passion is narrative, feature-length documentary films.
This event takes place as part of Dublin Art Book Fair 2021: Manual, sponsored by Henry J Lyons and supported by Dublin UNESCO City of Literature.
