Painting the Present with Kathy Tynan

Take inspiration and reflect on your day-to-day surroundings through painting. Painter Kathy Tynan will illustrate a classic step-by-step painting process that involves looking, comprehending and making.

Often, paintings begin with a visual curiosity for our everyday surroundings. This project will describe the various layers that make up an observational painting process. Through guided processes including photography, sketching, and painting, you will create a collective painted display of everyday life on the Gallery walls.

Kathy Tynan is a Dublin-based artist who primarily works in paint. Her paintings often depict particular details of urban and domestic scenes. Her direct and energetic approach to the painted surface favours liveliness over correctness of representation. While her paintings are figurative, the real subject matter of her work is the moment of encounter within the everyday when ordinary or usually overlooked aspects of a scene become illuminated.

Please Touch with Tara Carroll

Explore art through touch, play and access. Tara Carroll invites you to collaboratively create a space to explore how touch is transferred across time, space and bodies

We interact with our surroundings, with others and ourselves through touch. It helps us connect with the world around us and to each other. We are often told ‘Please Don’t Touch’ in galleries and museums. How does a space and your experience change when you are invited to ‘Please Touch’? Through sculptural play, build a comfortable position for your body or make and add textures and objects to an evolving communal installation. By engaging with the installation, we enter into community with others we may have never met.

Book Now: Adult Workshop | Please Touch with artist Tara Carroll

Tara Carroll is a socially engaged and collaborative artist. Their work takes the form of installation, performance, participation, community building, advocacy, and creative social spaces. During difficult times, it was Tara’s community that empowered them to carve new pathways of creativity, interdependence and care (real care). The work Tara creates is to return this gift to people who also feel outside of art spaces, together breaking down preconceptions of what art can be to access unique perceptions of ourselves.

If the Glove fits with Alexandre Caretti

Alexandre Caretti invites you to create your own patterns for a pair of gloves, one for you and one to leave your imprint on the Gallery.

Create your own unique pattern for a unique pair of paper gloves. Inspired by patterns and motifs discovered in the streets and museums of Dublin, Alexandre Caretti has assembled a collection of photographs and objects to guide and inspire you. Through this collection, or images from your own phone or notebook, you can create a pattern that reflects your own taste and imagination. This installation will reflect on identity and storytelling created through the patterns of textiles and layering of objects in our interior spaces. Add one glove to a textile artwork in the gallery created by the artist. The other glove can be taken home as a personal keepsake.

Alexandre Caretti: ‘Making a film about love is not about explaining what love is, but about telling a love story. It is this starting point that guides the artist’s sculptural language’. Alexandre Caretti’s artworks narrate without explaining, drawing on architecture, materiality, gentleness, humour and play to provoke an encounter with his work and the stories that inhabit it. Alexandre Caretti (born in Besançon) lives and works in Lyon. He is currently on a residency at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios.
