Work with some of the traditional steps in underpainting, Imprimatura, Abbozzo, and Grisaille, to create a collective painted display of everyday life.
Artist Kathy Tynan will host this painting workshop illustrating a classic step-by-step painting process that involves looking, comprehending, and making using the Imprimatura, Abbozzo, and Grisaille layers. While these techniques are drawn from Old Master traditions, here, they will be worked with in a loose and interpretive way. Before painting, participants will be invited to choose or to take a photo of an everyday landscape or domestic scene with their phones. This workshop presents painting as a way of looking deeper at our present moment and taking more notice of our ordinary surroundings.
This is an adult workshop, suitable for anyone new to or curious about contemporary art and painting techniques. All materials will be provided. Confirmation of attendance will be requested closer to the time.
Kathy Tynan is a Dublin-based artist who primarily works in paint. Her paintings often depict particular details of urban and domestic scenes. Her direct and energetic approach to the painted surface favours liveliness over correctness of representation. While her paintings are figurative, the real subject matter of her work is the moment of encounter within the everyday when ordinary or usually overlooked aspects of a scene become illuminated
