Susan MacWilliam presents Some Ghosts (2009, 38 mins) a portrait of Danish American poltergeist investigator William G. Roll (1926-2012). In Some Ghosts Roll demonstrates tricks with matches, discusses his work in parapsychology and recalls a table levitation he witnessed 40 years earlier.
Some Ghosts is recorded at Roll’s home in Atlanta, Georgia and in the Psychology Department and Special Collections Library, University of West Georgia, where Roll, a former faculty member and Professor of Psychology and Psychical Research donated his archive of personal research and investigations.
The film will be accompanied by stereoscopic images of Roll.
Susan MacWilliam
Using video, sculpture and photography Susan MacWilliam explores obscure and overlooked histories and narratives. Work is developed from archive research and direct contact with her subjects. Experimenting with a range of processes and approaches, Susan seeks to explore, re-present and re-consider the personal and the historical. Her work explores multiple viewpoints and considers and employs forms and processes of portraiture, interpretation, reconstruction and representation. With an interest in that which is on the periphery of the mainstream and which falls beyond conventional fields of science and psychology Susan has developed an extensive body of work exploring a range of phenomena including dermo optical perception, extra-sensory perception, table tilting, psychic abilities and mediumship.
The survey show Susan MacWilliam: Modern Experiments runs at Highlanes Gallery, Drogheda 18 Feb - 8 Apr 2017 before touring to West Cork Arts Centre, Skibbereen and Butler Gallery, Kilkenny. Curated by Riann Coulter Modern Experiments began it's tour at F.E. McWilliam Gallery, Banbridge in 2016.
Susan MacWilliam occupied a Membership Studio with a one year extension from 2013 to 2017.
