THE MOLE FLIPPED THE SUNSHINE SWITCH is a commissioned artwork by TBG+S Studio Artist Ella Bertilsson in response to this year's Dublin Art Book Fair theme Fictions: The makings of other worlds.
THE MOLE FLIPPED THE SUNSHINE SWITCH by Ella Bertilsson is a fabricated landscape that uses the artist’s sets and props that have appeared in previous artworks which explore dreamlike states, symbolic imagery and invented narratives. This re-imagined landscape draws inspiration from the Mojave Desert which Bertilsson visited in 2016, a visit which has been an influence over her work and aesthetics ever since. The installation is on view in the Gallery throughout the run of Dublin Art Book Fair, 21 November–01 December 2024.
Ella Bertilsson’s practice combines elements of sculpture, video, performance, drawing, painting, and sound into staged installations, as a form of enquiry into bizarre and quotidian experiences and events that shape our character and define our identity. Selected solo exhibitions include: The Horse, Dublin (2025); Ballina Art Centre, Mayo (2024); The Dock, Leitrim (2023-24); and The Complex, Dublin (2022).
Dublin Art Book Fair (DABF) is a centre for contemporary artist books offering unique artist publications and titles from creative, small and independent publishers, both Irish and international. This year, DABF is guest curated by Adrian Duncan.
Dublin Art Book Fair 2024 is proudly sponsored by Henry J Lyons and supported by Dublin UNESCO City of Literature and RTÉ Supporting The Arts.
