The Giving Light is a collection of photographs, taken by writer Gavin Corbett, in Dublin, London, New York, San Francisco, and other places, over the last number of years. The photographs are taken using a variety of film cameras, not all of them in good working order. The sequence traces a mood, out of which arises a theme and, as becomes apparent, a story, which is reflected in the text. The text runs as a rolling ticker throughout the book, and is an accompaniment to the photos, rather than a direct address to them. The Giving Light is published by Hi-Tone.

Gavin Corbett is from Dublin. He has published three novels: Innocence (2003), This Is The Way (2013) and Green Glowing Skull (2015). This Is The Way won the 2013 Kerry Group Irish Novel of the Year award and was shortlisted for the Encore Prize. He has been published widely as a journalist, and has written and broadcast for RTÉ Radio. Last year, he was Trinity College Dublin’s Arts Council Irish Writer Fellow. Gavin Corbett is Temple Bar Gallery + Studios' Writer for 2017, commissioned to write a piece of short fiction inspired by each of the exhibitions in the gallery programme.
