Join, ANNEX, the curators of Entanglement, the Irish Pavilion at the 17th Venice Architecture Biennale 2021 for a moderated panel to formally launch the accompanying book, States of Entanglement: Data In the Irish Landscape (ACTAR, 2021).
Part exhibition catalogue, part atlas and part design manual, the publication brings together researchers in the fields of media theory, art, and geography, as well as architecture and design, to interrogate the cultural, material, and geo-spatial states of data infrastructure, decoded from the lens of Ireland’s significant role in telecommunications both historically and in the present day. Like the pavilion, States of Entanglement argues that ‘the cloud’ is not an ethereal and abstract space but has distinct material and environmental footprints that compel us to re-evaluate the utopian fantasy of digital communication and to reflect on how we live together through data infrastructure, today and into the future.
States of Entanglement: Data In the Irish Landscape is authored and edited by ANNEX (Sven Anderson, Alan Butler, David Capener, Donal Lally, Clare Lyster and Fiona Mc Dermott) with contributions by Patrick Bresnihan and Patrick Brodie, Catherine Ince, Merlo Kelly, Chris Morash, Paul O'Neill and, Nicole Starosielski. Graphic Design by Alex Synge | The First 47. Copy-editing by Michael K. Hayes.
This event takes place as part of Dublin Art Book Fair 2021: Manual, sponsored by Henry J Lyons and supported by Dublin UNESCO City of Literature.
