The Story of Castalia is a new graphic book by visual artist Brianna Hurley that focuses on themes of lush landscapes, bodily transformations, daring adventures and battles.

Kaethe Burt-O’Dea will join artist Brianna Hurley to discuss the book and how we understand and navigate our current times of great uncertainty and ecological and social turmoil.

Brianna Hurley is a visual artist based in Co. Kilkenny. After her initial art training at KCAT Arts Centre, she became a full-time member of KCAT’s professional artist studio, where she continues to develop her love of painting and drawing. Brianna takes inspiration from her travels in Spain, architecture, her love of playing basketball and tornados. Two of her works are in the Crawford Gallery national collection NEW THREADS: Acquisitions 2021.

Kaethe Burt-O’Dea is a nurse, artist, environmentalist, and healthcare design consultant. She leads Bi URBAN, a one-of-a-kind creative studio connecting nature, people and place. Bi URBAN is home to the public engagement stage of an ambitious long-term-strategy to map and build a lifeline for nature and public amenity that will connect the Botanic Gardens with the Liffey and Phoenix Park. Through collective development of a network of green infrastructure in North Central Dublin, the project aims to create a fertile ground for social innovation, enterprise, and nature-based solutions and an exemplar to inspire other cities/towns in Ireland and abroad.

This event takes place as part of Dublin Art Book Fair 2022: A Caring Matter, sponsored by Henry J Lyons and supported by Dublin UNESCO City of Literature.
