Róisín Kennedy will deliver a talk on the work and ideas of Irish women artists of the early 20th century, including Sarah Purser, Evie Hone and Mainie Jellett.
Reflecting on the exhibition Tour Donas by Lucy McKenzie, Róisín Kennedy will consider issues of hierarchy and authorship in the context of the artist’s practice and her methods of production.
Róisín Kennedy is a Lecturer in the School of Art History and Cultural Policy. She is former Yeats Curator at the National Gallery of Ireland and former curator of the State Collection at Dublin Castle. Her recent publication Art and the Nation State: The Reception of Modern Art in Ireland, was published by Liverpool University Press 2021. She is co-editor and contributor to Harry Clarke and Artistic Visions of the New Irish State, (Irish Academic Press, 2018) and Censoring Art: Silencing the Artwork (I.B. Tauris, 2018).
