Wait ‘til I tell you about the warp-spasm… is a discursive event on the role of storytelling in the exhibition Oh My Demigod curated by RGKSKSRG.
Following an introduction to elements of the Táin Bó Cuailnge by documentary filmmaker John Higgins, participating artists Farouk Alao and Michelle Doyle will share insights into how legend, legacy and identity influence their practices, focusing particularly on the development of their new work for the exhibition. RGKSKSRG – Rachael Gilbourne and Kate Strain – will discuss the development of the show, from researching source texts to inviting new commissions, and the process of exhibition making. Responding to the creative act of storytelling in its many shapeshifting forms, this conversation celebrates the artists and artistic methodologies that bring the mythological to life.
Farouk Alao is an emerging artist, designer, model and brand consultant, utilising tools from the worlds of design and photography to question the things we think we know about ourselves.
Michelle Doyle is an artist and musician whose work critiques technology, politics and innovation through new media. Doyle makes music as Rising Damp, joined by percussionist Sarah Grimes and synth player Ivan Pawle.
John Higgins is an independent documentary filmmaker and radio producer with a special interest in Irish mythology.
RGKSKSRG is the paired curatorial practice of Rachael Gilbourne and Kate Strain. Through linking with sites, communities and institutions, RGKSKSRG works to create new contexts for engaged encounters between artists and audiences.
