Temple Bar Gallery + Studios is delighted to welcome our new Programme Curator, Michael Hill.

Michael Hill is a curator and independent publisher who has held key roles in Ireland's leading public and private contemporary art galleries, including the Douglas Hyde Gallery, Trinity College Dublin (2008-2017), and mother’s tankstation Dublin and London (2017-2018). During this time he has put together over 120 exhibitions and displays of artists' work in several countries, and has worked on over thirty artists' publications. Michael has valuable experience working closely with artists at all stages of their careers: from recent graduates, to artists who have represented their countries at the Venice Biennale, in addition to producing many museum standard exhibitions. From 2015-2017, he curated a series of exploratory site-responsive projects with emerging artists, including Ruth Clinton and Niamh Moriarty, Hannah Fitz, and Áine McBride. He is a member of the Advisory Board for Askeaton Contemporary Arts, County Limerick. Over the last five months, Michael has been the Interim Programme Curator at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, where he has planned and overseen the production and installation of high quality exhibitions, including Lola Gonzàlez, Ailbhe Ní Bhriain and Ronan McCrea. He has played an important and dynamic role with managing a studio complex and, with the artists at TBG+S, developing public events that enrich the experience of visitors to the organisation. His first curated exhibition at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios will be a solo show by Finnish artist Pilvi Takala, opening in July 2019.

Michael says, “Temple Bar Gallery + Studios is a unique communal environment that supports studio and exhibiting artists, staff and public audiences in a multitude of ways every day. This special atmosphere encourages individuality and personal growth that in turn inspires creativity and a greater understanding of visual arts and culture. I am very happy to be part of the TBG+S team and I look forward to collaborating with the generous staff, the dedicated Studio Artists, as well as introducing new artists and audiences to our one of a kind community."

Cliodhna Shaffrey, Director says, “We are delighted to announce Michael’s appointment. We had an impressive field of candidates for the post of Programme Curator and we thank all of them for their interest. We are delighted to be working with Michael Hill as our Programme Curator. Michael brings fresh ideas and tremendous enthusiasm for the post and we believe he will play a significant role in enabling Temple Bar Gallery + Studios to make ambitious exhibitions and support artists to thrive and gain from their time and participation in studios here. We welcome Michael to our team and we look forward to working closely with him as we enter into a new phase of strategic planning."

Michael Hill commences his post on 11th March 2019.
