Temple Bar Gallery + Studios (TBG+S) and HIAP — Helsinki International Artist Programme are delighted to announce Miia Kettunen as the Finnish recipient of TBG+S/HIAP International Residency Exchange, 2026.

The TBG+S/HIAP International Residency Exchange, now in its twentieth year, gives a Finnish or Finland-based artist to live and work in Dublin for two months, kindly funded by the Finnish Institute in the UK and Ireland. In return an Irish or Ireland-based artist has the opportunity to spend three months at HIAP, with access to production facilities, visiting curators and an international network of artists.

Miia Kettunen is a Finnish Lapland-based visual artist. Miia’s works are often born in a communal and multidisciplinary dialogue, frequently at the unconventional interfaces and encounters between the collective and the subjective. Recurring themes are attributes and transformations of the conscious human mind, and the understanding of landscapes and environments from internal spaces outward. Mia’s work incorporates elements of environmental and bio art, alternative photography, textiles, text, and mixed media. Meditation and walking are also used as methodological tools, drawing on nearly thirty years of yoga and mindfulness practices.

As part of this residency, Miia will research cemeteries and themes of tranquillity, presence, and death for an upcoming solo exhibition, 2026-2028. Selected exhibitions include Shifting Ground, Rovaniemi Art Museum, Finland (2024); and (X)sites and Art Ii Biennials, Sweden (2023) & Finland (2020). Residencies include Kone Foundation's Saari Residence and the Finnish Cultural Foundation, awarded NART in Estonia, and a residency with the award-winning British interactive arts studio Invisible Flock.
