LUX Critical Forum Dublin calls for artists, curators and writers interested in moving image for the period of October 2016 – March 2017.
The group’s goal is to engage in discourse around artists’ moving image. The particular focus of LUX is visual arts-based moving image work, a definition which includes experimental film, video art, installation art, performance art, personal documentary, essay films and animation and is inclusive both in terms of context and critical discourse.
LUX Critical Forum Dublin host a six-session series where 12 artists will be selected to present on moving image work. At each session, over the six-month period, two artists will present. The emphasis is on group discourse around moving image practice rather than discussion about personal work.
After much success in 2015 the Plastik festival of artists’ moving image is back at the IFI and TBG+S in Spring 2017. As this series will culminate in the Plastik festival, Critical Forum members will be involved in the selection process of new moving image work for the 'New Work Award' a programme of recent work highlighting a new generation of Irish artists working with moving image.
The forum will take place on the last Wednesday of the month from 18.30 – 20.00 in Studio 6, Temple Bar Gallery + Studios. The forum will be completely open for all local and visiting artists with an interest in moving image.
To apply for membership please tell us about your current moving image interest / research and your reason for joining - 250 words maximum. Send to criticalforumdublin@gmail.com by Monday 17 October. The first forum will be the following week Wednesday 26 October.
