Four artists awarded Membership Studios at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios

17 April 2018

Temple Bar Gallery + Studios is delighted to announce the four artists who have been awarded Membership Studio spaces at TBG+S in 2018; Aleana Egan, Catriona Leahy, Dragana Jurišić and Vivienne Dick.

Membership Studios offer a three year tenure and are aimed at visual artists working in Ireland who have developed a strong body of work and career to date. Each year, TBG+S provides excellent workspaces for thirty artists to work in Dublin city. The work made in the studios often goes on to be exhibited throughout the world. As well as studio space, TBG+S offers the artists professional development opportunities such as studio visits from international visiting curators and artists. TBG+S is delighted to welcome all four artists and looks forward to supporting them to make ambitious new work over the next three years.

The new artist members were awarded their studios by a selection panel, following an open submission application process which took place in March 2018. This year, the selection panel for studio membership consisted of Stef Van Bellingen (Curator based in Belgium and the Director of WARP Contemporary Art Platform), Miranda Blennerhassett (TBG+S Studio Member), Rayne Booth (Programme Curator, TBG+S) and Clíodhna Shaffrey (Director, TBG+S). The panel was impressed with the quality and number of applications received for three-year Membership Studios. It clearly represented the difficult context for visual artists seeking workspaces in Dublin City. The challenges and implications the lack of workspaces presents for the visual arts community is a concern.

TBG+S is an artist-governed organisation. Membership Studios give artists full membership status and voting rights at the AGM and are awarded for a period of three years with the possibility of a one year extension.

TBG+S is now accepting applications for the TBG+S Recent Graduate Residency. The Recent Graduate Residency offers a free studio for one year, a €1,000 stipend, €500 international travel bursary and a variety of institutional supports to an artist who has graduated from an undergraduate degree in the past three years. Deadline for applications is Friday 18 May 2018 at 5.30pm. For more information, please click here.
