Dublin Art Book Fair 2020 identity designed by Alex Synge selected for 100 Archive 2020

The identity for Dublin Art Book Fair 2020: Design as an Attitude, designed by Alex Synge, has been selected for 100 Archive 2020.

The 100 Archive charts the past, present and future of Irish design by publishing 100 notable communication design projects, selected each year following an open call.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Dublin Art Book Fair 2020: Design as an Attitude took place both online and at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios from 23 November – 6 December 2020, with design by Alex Synge, The First 47. With the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, and ever-changing government guidance on opening to the public, the book fair focused heavily on its online presence in using an online shop and hosting panel discussions, participatory events and book launches online. Design also utilised the gallery’s expansive exterior windows to make a public-facing impact while the physical space remained closed. This approach helped to extend the book fair’s reach to loyal and new audiences, both Irish and international.

DABF20 was curated by world-leading design critic and author Alice Rawsthorn (UK). It explored how design is becoming an increasingly elastic and extensive field that addresses major challenges of our time, such as the climate emergency and refugee crisis, the rise of inequality and intolerance and how to rebuild our lives after the devastating Covid-19 crisis.

Limited edition bookmarks were produced in collaboration with three studio artists from TBG+S, as well as screen-printed tote bags, digital gift cards and a graphic template for use across all online events.
