Temple Bar Gallery + Studios announces recipients of Six Year Membership Studios, Three Year Members
Temple Bar Gallery + Studios is delighted to announce the results of our open call for Six Year Membership Studios, Three Year Membership Studios and the ISCP (International Studio and Curatorial Program) Residency in New York.
ISCP Residency awarded to:
The awards were allocated through a rigorous selection process from a panel that included two international curators, Eoin Dara (Head of Exhibitions Dundee Contemporary Arts, Co-curator, Household Belfast) and Linsey Young (Curator of Contemporary British Art at Tate, Commissioner and Curator Scotland at Venice 2019), as well current Temple Bar Gallery + Studios artist members. The large number of applications received is indicative of the acute need of artists’ working spaces in Dublin at present and it was not possible to accommodate all of the artists who made high quality applications. However, the panel is also an opportunity for Temple Bar Gallery + Studios to study artists’ practices in detail and to open our discussion around the work of Irish artists to an international perspective.
Six Year Membership Studio is a new award that has been put in place to offer security to artists who are at a particularly developed stage of their practice, where a high quality work space is guaranteed for a substantial period of time. In return, these artists will contribute to the institutional memory of our organisation and help to forge links with other communities in an ambassadorial capacity. Temple Bar Gallery + Studios hopes to provide further Six Year Membership Studios to artists in the coming years.
Six and Three Year Membership Studios provide secure, private studio spaces in the centre of Dublin. We also offer our resident artists professional development opportunities such as studio visits from international visiting curators and artists, as well as a community focussed atmosphere for peer discussion. The artworks that are created in Temple Bar Gallery + Studios go on to be exhibited around the world.
Six and Three Year Membership Studios give the awarded artists full membership status of our artist-governed organisation, including voting rights at the AGM. We will hold open calls for our Recent Graduate Residency Award and one year Project Studios in the coming months.
ISCP (International Studio and Curatorial Program) Residency in New York is awarded to Hannah Fitz by the ISCP Director and programming staff. Fitz’s international practice has shared a number of links with Temple Bar Gallery + Studios: she was previously awarded the Recent Graduate Residency in 2015 and held a solo exhibition, Knock Knock, in the gallery in 2018. Speaking on receipt of the award, Hannah Fitz says:
‘I have been waiting for the right time to apply to ISCP for a few years now, keeping an eye out for the funded partnership opportunities and open calls. I am pretty ecstatic at the idea of a studio in New York in general but specifically in association with ISCP and Temple Bar Gallery + Studios.’
