Atoosa Pour Hosseini, 'The Magic Circle', Exhibition Performance

Atoosa Pour Hosseini's performance on the opening of her exhibition The Magic Circle, performed in collaboration with Olesya Zdorovetska and Yasaman Pishvaei

Atoosa Pour Hosseini’s collaborative practice engages performers, composers, and fellow filmmakers in her moving image works and ‘live cinema events’, that create an atmospheric staging of her exhibitions with the ritualistic processes of live 16mm film projection, sound and movement. For the opening of the exhibition The Magic Circle, Pour Hosseini produced a live cinema event with composer Olesya Zdorovetska and performer Yasaman Pishvaei.

Atoosa Pour Hosseini is an Iranian-Irish artist filmmaker based in Dublin. Recent exhibitions and screenings include Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin (2023); fsk Kino am Oranienplatz, Berlin (2023); Oonagh Young Gallery, Dublin (2022); Jeu de Paume, Paris (2021); Project Arts Centre, Dublin (2021). Pour Hosseini is Co-Director of Experimental Film Society. Pour Hosseini’s work is held in the collections of the Irish Museum of Modern Art and the Arts Council of Ireland.

Olesya Zdorovetska is a Dublin-based performer, composer and curator, originally from Kyiv, Ukraine. Her work has been described as ‘an emotional and intellectual explosion' (Dash Arts, UK). She is a founder of the Ukrainian-Irish Cultural Platform and co-curator of Phonica, a platform for experimental music and poetry. She was a 2022 recipient of the Markievicz Award from the Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon and the best-soundscape winner at The 25th Irish Times Irish Theatre Awards.

Yasaman Pishvaei is an Iranian multi-media artist, Expressive Arts facilitator, and researcher currently based in Potsdam, Germany. Her artistic practice revolves around embracing the enigmatic qualities of art to foster deeper personal and interpersonal understanding, connection, and hybridization. She utilizes Expressive Arts and Interpersonal Neurobiology frameworks to explore human experience and designs/facilitates arts-based research processes.

The Magic Circle was on view 20 October–3 December 2023 at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios.
