Summer School Family Workshop: Under Construction at Dublin Port

25 July 2024, 2–3:30pm

Further Information

Take a closer look at the structures, materials and artworks at Dublin Port and make sculptures with artist Joanne Reid.

Family friendly event, no experience is necessary. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Old or protective clothing recommended.

Join artist Joanne Reid as she leads a walk around The Pumphouse, taking a closer look at the exhibitions and the surrounding Port area with quick observational sketches and/or photography. Following this, participants will move into the studio to see examples of Joanne's work, before using cardboard and paper materials to construct their own sculptures based on what was observed on the walk.

Please raid your green bin and bring lots of cardboard to make with!

Meet at the orange cabin at the entrance to The Pumphouse, Alexandra Road, Dublin Port at 2pm. Alternatively you can walk from The Point Luas stop at 1:45pm with a member of staff.

This is a free event, booking essential as spaces are limited. One booking per child, accompanying adult does not need to book. You will be asked to confirm your attendance in order to hold your booking, the week of the event.

Joanne Reid is a visual artist working primarily in sculpture. Her work often begins as a direct response to encounters with the materials, objects and spaces that form our built environment. In her practice she often works with building materials such as steel, plywood, concrete, plaster and timber. Her most recent work plays with a merging of the natural and the built world.

This year, Summer School takes place alongside Longest Way Round, Shortest Way Home, two exhibitions at The Pumphouse surrounded by the active logistical operations of the thriving Dublin Port. The exhibitions are produced and curated by Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, in partnership with Dublin Port Company.

Event Location Information: This workshop will take place at the Pumphouse location in Dublin Port. There is limited wheelchair access to the exhibitions and some uneven surfaces outside. There is an accessible toilet. The workshop will take place indoors with access to outdoors also. There will be seating available. For further details on accessibility please contact TBG+S Learing + Public Engagement Curator Orla Goodwin.

Image descriptions: A vertical wall of card board with directional yellow arrows pointing upward sits in the foreground. In the background and behind the cardboard wall, there is a large red ship.
