Learn how TBG+S Studio Artist Christopher McMullan works with aromas as part of his practice and create, describe and think about scents.
Family friendly event, no experience is necessary. Children must be over the age of seven and accompanied by an adult.
What scents and aromas do we think of when we imagine something being clean? Artist Christopher McMahon will encourage children to let their imagination run wild and explore how we think about scents. This workshop will explore mixing different scents, and encourage participats to get creative with combinations.
Engage your sense of smell, create your own combinations and then try and describe them. Scents are usually described with words but for this workshop will explore describing scents through mark making, colours, movements, sounds, and materials to communicate how we see and feel about the scents.
Meet at the orange cabin at the entrance to the Pumphouse, Alexandra Road, Dublin Port at 2pm. Alternatively you can walk from The Point Luas stop at 1:45pm with a member of staff.
This is a free event, booking essential as spaces are limited. One booking per child, accompanying adult does not need to book. You will be asked to confirm your attendance in order to hold your booking, the week of the event.
Christopher Mc Mullan is a Dublin-based artist and is the recipient of the TBG+S Recent Graduate Residency Award 2024. He draws from his youth in Texas, USA, designing and building tree forts and go-karts, as well as his previous career in avant-garde kitchens, where he learned to extract aromas to make perfumes. His practice is situated between craft, science, and play, using extractions, distillations, and preservations as well as apparatuses to recalibrate perception of situation. By “de-luxifying” perfumery, he prefers to use it as a tool of communication, exploring non-retinal perception of visual art.
This year, Summer School takes place alongside Longest Way Round, Shortest Way Home, two exhibitions at The Pumphouse surrounded by the active logistical operations of the thriving Dublin Port. The exhibitions are produced and curated by Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, in partnership with Dublin Port Company.
Event Location Information: This workshop will take place at the Pumphouse, Alexandra Road, Dublin Port. There is limited wheelchair access to the exhibitions and some uneven surfaces outside. There is an accessible toilet. The workshop will take place indoors with access to outdoors also. There will be seating available.
