02 December 2020, 6.30pm - 7.30pm
Hans Ulrich Obrist in conversation with Alice Rawsthorn, discusses the works and life of Édouard Glissant, poet, philosopher, public intellectual, and curator. In this conversation, they will also discuss the importance of reading and books, Hans Ulrich Obrist’s curatorial work, and his favourite authors.
Édouard Glissant is recognised for his inestimable contributions to post-colonial studies, that not only encompassed literary and theoretical work, but in how he participated in political life. He consistently said that what matters is the production of reality. First as a member of the resistance who spoke out in favour of Martinique’s independence from France and then, from 1967 onwards, through the Institut Martiniquais d’Études, a school which was an agent for change, intervening in political issues. Later Glissant imagined and prepared a museum for Martinique, which is unrealized but remains a source of many ideas.
This is a free live streamed event. Booking is required.
