Drawing Workshop: Drawn to Sound

Renata Pękowska leads a drawing workshop giving participants with the opportunity to explore drawing in response to sound. The workshop will use drawing as a way to listen intently, producing visual evidence of our listening responses. A sequence of experimental drawing activities will respond to existing and imagined soundscapes. This will include responses to Temple Bar Gallery + Studios' current gallery exhibition Approx 1 Second of a Sweet Kiss by Lisa Freeman.

This event is the second part of two one-hour workshops, the first taking place at Irish Museum of Modern Art (11-12am) and the second at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios (2-3pm). Attendees will have the option to participate in a self-guided sensory walking trail between the two workshops.

This is an adult workshop. No experience necessary. Materials are supplied but feel free to bring your own preferred drawing materials.

Renata Pękowska is a visual artist and an Irish Research Council Scholar PhD researcher. Her background includes architectural studies, craft design (NCAD), critical theory, and UX/UI design (TU Dublin). Her current research project considers exhibition practices as sites of attention care in the context of attention economies of online media platforms.

This event is hosted as part of the annual celebration of National Drawing Day, an initiative of the National Gallery of Ireland.

Event Location Information: A member of our team will be present to welcome you at our street-facing gallery. This workshop will take place between our street facing gallery and Studio 6 on the first floor. Studio 6 is a large bright room with ceiling to floor windows. The workshop will be seated with drawing boards available. There is a semi accessible toilet on the ground floor. Please note there is currently construction outside our gallery.
