Shane McCarthy
Shane McCarthy was born in Cork in 1988, and graduated from Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Dublin in 2011. His work investigates notions of “Linguistic Structures" and how they can act as a framework for the potentiality of meaning by re-appropriating and commandeering methodologies that run in parallel to art making. His work focuses on a building up and out, based on a structure of dialogue, so that a single piece in of itself or as part of a show are persistent, scaling structure, articulated in a variety of methods: including sculpture, digital drawing, animation, and writing.
McCarthy is represented by mother’s tankstation and has participated in a number of group shows in Ireland and abroad. Most recently, he exhibited in a solo show entitled "words, sometimes, get in the way of meaning" 2013.
