Eve O’Callaghan works from an interest in the materials of painting and the history of image-making. She considers the simple properties of pigment, light, and balance when approaching a painting. These double-sided/multi-panel pieces ask and rephrase questions in colour and image, combining variations of pigment and quick pencil drawings. O’Callaghan takes inspiration from the conventions of display in galleries and museums, questioning the value of imagery when one side of a painting is foregrounded before another.

Eve O'Callaghan is the 2019 Recent Graduate Residency recipient.
