Darren Barrett
Darren Barrett’s practice incorporates a variety of different artistic mediums and sources. His most recent body of work has revolved around the creation of a fictional artistic movement, known as ’Nonceptualism’. Through the creation of this fictive movement, Barrett has established an open-ended theoretical framework, allowing his practice to weave together and manipulate a disparate collection of influences from the fields of literature, philosophy and art theory. The central objective of this endeavour will be to create a dynamic and playful model of artistic production, undermining many of the accepted conventions inherent within the contemporary art world and allowing the potentiality for more affirmative methods of artistic creation and discourse to emerge.
Darren Barrett graduated with a degree in Fine Art Painting from the National College of Art and Design in 2007. In 2011, he has had solo exhibitions in 126 (Galway) and Basement Project Space (Cork) and has also featured in a number of group exhibitions throughout the country.
