Andy Fitz’s sculptures are inexact versions of furniture and figures: familiar objects painted in a faded, near-monochromatic spectrum. Made in series, they appear to co-exist in a universe that omits us: a world in which action is arrested, colour is muted, light and shadow have form, and gravity seems less in control. Andy Fitz’s shapes are deliberately crude, reductive, and seemingly uncertain. Despite their handled quality, they present uniform and de-particularised images of the world, images structured by social and material norms. The sculptures often seem caught in a performance of their subjects, as though aware of being watched.

Andy Fitz was born in Dublin in 1989, they studied Sculpture at the National College of Art and Design graduating in 2012. While studying they took part in opening Basic Space and stayed working with them until, in 2015, they received the Recent Graduate Residency from Temple Bar Gallery + Studios. Andy Fitz stayed in TBG+S for two years after being awarded a Project Studio in 2016.
