Temple Bar Gallery + Studios launches its 2022 Artistic Programme
Temple Bar Gallery + Studios launches its 2022 Artistic Programme online on Thursday 24 February 2022.
Located in Dublin’s Cultural Quarter, Temple Bar Gallery + Studios (TBG+S) is a leading artists’ studio complex and contemporary art gallery which places artists and art at the heart of the City. TBG+S houses thirty high-quality and affordable studios. The 2022 Programme presents five gallery exhibitions, studio membership and international residency opportunities for artists, Dublin Art Book Fair, and a dynamic public engagement programme offering pathways for audiences to learn, reflect and engage with artists and their work.
TBG+S’ mission is to provide support and development opportunities for professional artists to create their work, ranging from recent graduates to internationally-recognised artists. In 2022 artists may apply for studio membership tenures, the Recent Graduate Residency award and international residencies opportunities in Helsinki and New York. TBG+S supports an inclusive environment of learning and creativity and nurture close and sustained engagement of audiences with the work of Irish and international artists.
The 2022 Exhibition Programme opens with Oh My Demigod, guest curated by RGKSKSRG. This group exhibition features Farouk Alao, Oona Doherty collaborating with Luca Truffarelli, Michelle Doyle/Rising Damp, Louis le Brocquy, to re-read and re-tell the epic Irish story of the Táin Bó Cuailnge by re-situating the legend in today’s cultural landscape. Galalith, the first solo exhibition in Ireland by artist Lauren Gault, is guest curated by Katherine Murphy. Gault’s responsive sculptural practice engages with a wide range of fields including agriculture and the shifting perception of ‘rural’, biomaterials and archaeology. Ramon Kassam presents a solo exhibition of new paintings that play with the themes of studio, landscape and environment. Sean Edwards' first solo exhibition in Ireland draws from personal and familial experiences of migration and his childhood in a suburban council estate. Sibyl Montague’s Worm’s Ditch (Claí na Péiste) is a new hybrid animated film drawing on the mythic Black Pig Dyke, or Worm’s Ditch - an ancient earthwork, spanning the Border’s territories.
As the Ireland at Venice 2022 Curatorial Team, Temple Bar Gallery + Studios presents Niamh O’Malley’s Gather, at the Irish Pavilion, La Biennale di Venezia 2022. Niamh O’Malley, a TBG+S studio artist, is known for her exquisitely crafted sculptures and moving image installations that hold viewers still in a moment of contemplation.
Rosie Lynch, Creative Director of Workhouse Union, is guest curator for Dublin Art Book Fair 2022 (DABF). A centre for the artist book, DABF platforms leading and cutting-edge publishers, Irish and international. It is a meeting point for cross-disciplinary programmes, where you can participate in a unique and warm atmosphere.
Over the last eight years, Temple Bar Gallery + Studios has commissioned ground-breaking Irish writers to create a series of short texts inspired by the exhibitions at TBG+S. Our Commissioned Writer for 2022 is Thomas Morris, award winning Dublin-based author and editor from Caerphilly, South Wales. He will write on the five gallery exhibitions with creative freedom to respond in his own way.
In 2022 the Learning + Public Engagement programmes will continue to be a hybrid format, where you can explore our exhibitions, meet artists and learn something new in person or online. Highlights include a three-day Summer School, Art Walk a guided tour in Temple Bar, and a diverse programme of talks, tours, screenings, performances, podcasts, short films and workshops. Admission to the exhibitions and events is free, for everybody.
