Temple Bar Gallery + Studios announces recipients of two international residencies

The Cité Internationale des Arts Residency, Paris, is awarded to Chloe Brenan. The TBG+S/HIAP International Residency Exchange 2023, Dublin, is awarded to Jaana Laakkonen.

Chloe Brenan will spend three months at Cité Internationale des Arts Residency, Paris from April to June 2023. Through a combination of moving image, photography, sound, publication and text, Chloe Brenan’s practice explores the porosity of the body and its indivisibility from its environment. She is interested in how forces are registered and measured – both experientially and materially - in human and non-human bodies, exploring the possibilities of alternative and expanded modes of sense making and attunement. Informed by feminist and new materialist epistemologies, her work often involves close and careful examination of the poetic haptics of daily life and processes on the edge of perception that call into question boundaries between bodies, environments, intimate spaces and wider structures of power.

Jaana Laakkonen will travel from Helsinki to spend two months in Dublin and work from a studio at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios in July and August 2023. Jaana Laakkonen (b.1985 in Joensuu, Finland) is an artist currently living and working in Helsinki, Finland. In recent years in her artistic practice she has been reflecting and testing what it matters and means to work with paint and writing in the light (or mud!) of feminist-posthumanist critical thinking and feminist philosophy of science.
