01 August 2023

Temple Bar Gallery + Studios is delighted to announce artist Aileen Murphy as the recipient of the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) Residency.

Aileen Murphy will spend three months in residence at ISCP in Brooklyn, New York. This residency awards an artist with a high-quality studio, living stipend, travel costs, studio visits and off-site trips to museums, galleries and other cultural organisations. It supports the artist with significant experience on a programme designed to build international links through growing network of artists and curators who are ISCP alumni.

Aileen Murphy is an Irish artist based in Berlin whose large-scale paintings convey corporeal sensory intensities and psychological intention through colour, gesture, and imagination.

Selected solo exhibitions include Wormhole, Pelaires Cabinet, Palma de Mallorca (2023), food that I would feed my lover, Deborah Schamoni, Munich (2022), WET TALK, Kevin Kavanagh, Dublin (2022), Flush, Amanda Wilkinson, London (2020) and PANTING, Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, Dublin (2019).

Image description: Aileen stands in front of a large abstract and colourful painting. She has short brown hair and is wearing a white jumper and blue jeans. Her facial profile is in view and she is looking down. Her right hand is holding the edge of the painting, and her left hand is down by her side, her index finger extended. Aileen’s feet and some of the painting are out of the frame. The painting has a sky-blue background and an abstract structure drawn in gestural marks and shapes in red, yellow, green, white, and blue. The structure is sitting on top of a large area of creamy pale yellow and red paint, forming the shape of a wave. On her right hand side, a stack of large paintings can be seen in the shadow.
