Kathy Tynan makes paintings which typically depict details and particularities of urban and domestic scenes. Her direct and energetic approach to the painted surface favors liveliness over correctness of representation. While her paintings are figurative, the real subject matter of her work is the moment of encounter within the everyday when ordinary or usually overlooked aspects of a scene become illuminated.
Tynan was born in 1984 and graduated from NCAD with a BA in Painting in 2008 and an MA entitled Art in the Contemporary World in 2010. Recent shows include Hands Laid On, Kevin Kavanagh, Dublin, There Are Little Kingdoms, Mermaid Arts Centre, Bray, What Is And What Might Be, Highlanes Gallery, Drogheda and The Sky Is All Changed, Hendrons Collider, Dublin. She is represented by Kevin Kavanagh, Dublin.
