Making Connections Summer School

Join us for 4 days of art activity in the gallery. Take part in a variety of workshops and drop in activities. Draw, colour, build, construct, move, and explore a range of ways of making and thinking.
Leave your mark and display your work in the gallery. Get to know artists resident in Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, meet new people, and spend time with friends and family.
All welcome – individuals, families, friends.
No previous experience required.
Temple Bar Gallery + Studios is excited to announce the second Making Connections Summer School from 4 - 7 July. Over 4 days, the main street-facing gallery at TBG+S will host a range of drop-in activities, art workshops, and a pop-up café. These activities are free and open to all. Please see below for a schedule of our workshops and information on the ongoing activities and interactive artworks that you will find in the gallery.

Pop-up café by Feashty
Feashty is a plant based food stall ran by Rachel Barton and Éilis Hickey. Throughout the Summer School Feashty will be selling tea, coffee, and a range of delicious vegan cakes, bites, raw treats and fermented drinks, including water kefir and kombucha. Feashty will be serving coffee from The Studio, an Artisan Coffee Roastery based in Co Meath.

BIG COLOURING-IN WALL | Holly Pereira [All Ages]
Add some colour to our large unique wall drawing by illustrator Holly Pereira. This interactive piece is an exercise in collaboration, concentration, and letting the mind run free while your hand takes over. Colour and doodle at your leisure!
BIG COLOURING-IN WALL is supported in kind by POSCA – paint in a pen. Discover the vibrant colours of POSCA and express your creativity through art.
Too Much Sugar, Drawing & Installation Station | Marcel Vidal [All Ages]
Contribute to an evolving sculptural installation devised by TBG+S studio artist Marcel Vidal. Draw, collage and attach to the chaotic growing sculptural assemblage!
Workshops do not require booking (unless otherwise stated) and places are on a first come first serve basis.
THURSDAY 4 JULY
11am - 1pm | Chaotic Assemblages workshop with Marcel Vidal [Ages 8 - 12, and must be accompanied by a guardian]
Join TBG+S studio artist Marcel Vidal to playfully look at sculpture and instinctive approaches to creating sculptural work. Explore an array of materials, such as clay, feathers, cardboard and drawing to construct improvised sculptural effigies and icons. Collage your work into a large collaborative sculpture installed in the gallery with Marcel.
4pm - 6pm | Fast Food Sculpture with Sibyl Montague [All ages, children under 8 must be accompanied by a guardian]
Join TBG+S studio artist Sibyl Montague to build a collaborative, evolving work using food and plaster. Explore experimental methods of casting using everyday ubiquitous items from the supermarket to create an accelerated, improvised buffet of artworks.
FRIDAY 5 JULY
11am - 1pm | Foot print, Hand stencil with Paul Hallahan [All ages]
Join TBG+S studio artist Paul Hallahan to create a large circular patterned painting on raw canvas made from your footprints and hand stencils, using acrylic paint! All you need to bring is your hands and feet and a love for colour!
3pm - 6pm | Hide & Seek: Mask making with Celina Muldoon [All Ages]
Join TBG+S studio artist Celina Muldoon to explore themes of identity and place through an exploration of mask making techniques. Play with a range of materials such as papier-mache, plaster and paint to create your own unique wearable sculpture.
Join artist Clare Breen and make ceramics for sharing meals. Collaboratively make ceramics while talking about how we use the gallery, the role art plays in our daily lives and how we can better use the gallery in the future.
2pm - 4pm | Exploring Printmaking with Janine Davidson with Black Church Print Studio [All Ages]
Create your own etching and learn about the materials, tools and history of the print studio. Using the idea of apertures and framing, capture glimpses within the gallery to create images that will be transferred onto plates for your etching. Hang your final artwork on the wall and exhibit you work in the gallery.
5pm - 6pm | Running Blind: Movement Workshop with Laura Sarah Dowdall [All ages and abilities]
Join dance artist Laura Sarah Dowdall for a multi-sensory dance workshop to explore the hard and soft edges of non-verbal communication. This accessible workshop involves touch, partner-work and moving with eyes closed. How do we perceive, interpret and interact with our environment and each other? SUNDAY 7 JULY
2pm - 4pm | Gender enders' conspiracy club with Gender.rip [All Ages]
Tired of gender? Tired of thinking logically? Join Gender.RIP for the Gender enders' conspiracy club where you will learn how to make art without worrying if it is "good". Using conspiracies, you will craft you own worlds and enjoy stitching, drawing, origami and more!
4pm - 5pm | Dublin Sketchers will meet to discuss and display their drawings created in the Temple Bar area. Dublinsketchers.blogspot.com
