TBG+S is pleased to welcome Glasgow based writer and curator, Francis McKee. Francis will be giving a talk , entitled 'On Going Furthur, Faster', on Thursday 19th March at 6pm in Studio 6, on his academic research into the psychedelic movement.
Francis McKee is an Irish writer and curator based in Glasgow. As a research fellow at The Glasgow School of Art, McKee has focused extensively on the exploration of open source theory as a potential economic model within the arts, the role of the archive in contemporary art, and modes of curatorial practice. His research interests have also impacted his role as Director of the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Glasgow where he has been working since 2006. On assuming this role, McKee restructured the organisation and the use of the building, experimenting with the use of open source as both a management tool and a curatorial approach to sharing usage of the buildings resources. Coinciding with his research interest in the role of the archive in contemporary art, McKee has been the leading researcher in an AHRC funded project entitled ‘The Glasgow Miracle’. This project centres on the process of archiving forty years material from the Third Eye Centre and the CCA. From 2005 to 2008 he was also curator of Glasgow International Festival of Contemporary Visual Art.
