Temple Bar Gallery + Studios is delighted to present filmmaker Vivienne Dick in the tenth talk in this series.
Vivienne Dick is an acclaimed Irish film maker and recognised as ‘one of the most important filmmakers in Ireland’ (Irish Times, 22 April 2014). She makes multilayered, open-ended work framed from a female perspective and with an interest in sexual politics, music and philosophy. Her early work is associated with the No Wave music and film movement of late seventies New York. Her talk will present an insight into her approach to filmmaking over a long career - making films since 1977 and, she will illustrate her practice with clips from various works over her early career to more recent films.
Vivienne Dick’s work has been shown extensively at festivals and museums in many countries. She has had retrospectives of her work at Crawford Art Gallery, Cork and Tate Modern and will have an upcoming show in 2017 at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin. Her work is in the collections of the MoMA, New York and the Irish Film Archives and is distributed by Lux UK. Her most recent film Red Moon Rising was nominated for the Short Film Awards at the London Film Festival 2015.
