Artist Julia Dubsky will participate in a public conversation with artist and art critic James Merrigan, on the occasion of her exhibition Vera Dian in Studio 16 at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios. Julia was awarded the 2017 Recent Graduate Residency at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios for one year beginning at the end of April. Her work takes the form of paintings about painting - in tandem with travels and critical reflections. This show exhibits work made in the last year: influenced by a term at the Royal Drawing School in London; three months studio practice in Berlin; a short artist residency in Tehran; and the assimilation of these strands in her Dublin studio so far.
James Merrigan is an artist and art critic. For the past decade he has promoted and prompted art discourse and criticism in Ireland as a writer, editor and teacher. He is the founding editor of billionjournal.com.
James was selected for EVA International Biennale of Visual Art (2014) as a fugitive art critic; he was Co-Editor of the printed quarterly on Irish art, Fugitive Papers; and was Guest-Editor of two issues of Visual Artists’ News Sheet in 2016. In 2011 he was awarded the inaugural Critical Writing Award by Visual Artists Ireland and Dublin City Council's The LAB.
