Clay Creations in the City will explore space and our relationship to it through play and storytelling. Inspired by the exhibition staring forms at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, the workshop will begin with a visit to the gallery and a discussion facilitated by Sophie Behal and Clíodhna O’ Riordan.
Prompted by a story told by Sophie and Clíodhna each child will create a character using clay that will inhabit the top light-filled floor of Temple Bar Gallery + Studios. These characters will navigate the vast jungle of plants that sprawl from the top floor out onto the balcony, leading us to ask questions like - What difference would it make if we were 100 times smaller? What would we have to change in the city to allow for this? By using storytelling and character development we will prompt questions about access to the city and how it’s navigation is different for different people.
Finally the children will be invited to design a new city for their characters, collaboratively drawing up the plans for an environment that features new built environments and inventions to allow their characters to navigate the city freely.
Serious About Play is a series of family workshops at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, as part of Dublin City Council’s Cruinniú na nÓg - a day of youthful creativity in Dublin City.
