Anti-Clockwise U.S. Tour -"Getting Changed" - Fall Winter 2019 2020
As part of the Artist Programme at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, studio artist Paul Hallahan has invited Turner Prize winning artist and musician Martin Creed for a once-off live music performance in the gallery.
In addition to an enduring and successful visual arts practice, Martin Creed has worked extensively as a musician and composer. Over several decades, Creed has recorded and performed music as a solo artist, as part of a band and cabaret act, as well as writing for other musicians to perform as part of quartets and orchestras. For this performance at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, Creed will perform solo as the first date on his upcoming Anti-Clockwise U.S. Tour – “Getting Changed” that also includes dates in Norway and Canada.
A retrospective of Creed’s audio-visual work was exhibited at Park Avenue Armory, New York (2016). His Work No. 409 (piece for choir and elevator) is permanently installed at the Royal Festival Hall, London, and has been exhibited at Ikon Gallery, Birmingham, Van Abbe Museum, Amsterdam, and Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh. He has composed orchestral works for the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra and the London Sinfonietta. The London 2012 Olympics opened with Creed’s Work No. 1197, written for the occasion.
Martin Creed has exhibited in major museums and institutions worldwide. Recent solo exhibitions and projects include Tate Britain, London (2018), Public Art Fund, Brooklyn Bridge Park, New York (2016), Hayward Gallery, London (2014), National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa, and The Warhol, Pittsburgh (2013).
Paul Hallahan holds a Project Studio at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios (2018/2019). His practice incorporates a range of media, with a focus on painting. Despite his varied approach, Hallahan maintains a consistent resonance with musical forms, rhythms and tonalities. As part of the Artist Programme at TBG+S Hallahan has also hosted SPEAKER, a series of live events where invited artists present a selection of music to a live audience in Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, in association with Dublin Digital Radio.
The Artist Programme at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios cultivates dynamic artist-led ideas in our building to support studio practice, and enable a progressive environment for peer exchange, learning and creativity.
