Join us for a walking tour of two of the city’s leading contemporary art galleries, whose current exhibitions are showcasing new artworks by female Irish artists. We will begin our tour at the Kerlin Gallery to view works by Dorothy Cross, Aleana Egan, Siobhán Hapaska, Isabel Nolan and Kathy Prendergast. After we will walk together to view Hannah Fitz’s solo exhibition Knock Knock at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios. Each artist works with sculptural material in a unique way and this tour will give insight into the different approaches to and influences on contemporary sculpture.
Dorothy Cross, Aleana Egan, Siobhán Hapaska, Isabel Nolan, Kathy Prendergast presents new sculptural work by five leading Irish contemporary artists. Though each artist is operating at a different stage in their career, they have each developed a distinct and innovative approach to sculpture that has won international recognition from museums, biennales and contemporary art publications.
Knock Knock is a new body of work by young artist Hannah Fitz. Fitz’s sculptures bring to mind familiar furnishings, made using paper, plaster, and resin layered on to steel frames and painted in distinctive monochromes. Dubious sculptures of chairs and tables seem to creep away from themselves, TV screens emit a frozen light, jeans and jumpers fulfil their expected shapes before collapsing back into a pile of clothes.
