'In Conversation
with Finola Jones', Fergus Martin and Maeve Connolly
Temple Bar Gallery and Studios 12pm, Tuesday 24th May 2005 Temple Bar Gallery and Studios presents 'In Conversation with Finola Jones', the continuation of a series of informal talks programmed at the gallery for 2005. Fergus Martin, artist and lecturer in fine-art, and Maeve Connolly, writer and lecturer on film and visual culture, will discuss with Finola Jones the different themes explored in her current exhibition 'Artificially Reconstructed Habitats'. Jones' well-established art practice is predicated on the conceptual notion that 'the idea dictates the medium' and because of this she has worked in abroad range of artistic approaches from relatively traditional object-making to ephemeral installation. All this is brought to bear on 'Artificially Reconstructed Habitats', though primarily a multi-channel video and audio work it is intended as a coherent experiential sculptural work. Fergus Martin and Maeve Connolly will lead Finola Jones in conversation about the ongoing concerns of her practice, ideas surrounding nature and culture, reality and reality TV, art and artifice. The talk will also offer perspectives on the theoretical structures and meaning of the varying filmic strategies adopted by Jones, from that of the documentary film-maker to the global tourist with hand-held camera. Booking for 'In Conversation with Finola Jones' is recommended. For further information or to book a place at the talk please contact claire@templebargallery.com or t. 01 671 0073. 'Artificially Reconstructed Habitats' continues at Temple Bar Gallery and Studios until 4th June. |
